As listeners, children will immediately understand because they still very much live in a world of innocence and hamsters, ladybugs, puppies, schools, snowflakes, and other things in nature that are written about in this book. Many of them are fortunate enough to create fantasies and believe in magical things in the world about them. As they mature, these children will share in the bittersweet microcosm of life, as we have and still do today. Our own childhoods and places where we grew up are not so long ago or so far away that they are never in our minds. Like the author, we can easily recall ordinary events that children often perceive as great triumphs or tragedies. Together, the words and illustrations in this book have the power to create flashbacks to our own younger days, to our own pets and peeves, to our unshackled imaginations, to our happy and sad times, and to the entire experiences and fabrics of our lives. These poems and our thoughts take us back on an odyssey along a winding road that we cannot travel again, except in our memories. An album has been created to preserve these poems in audible and musical form with the voices of children singing the lyrics. |
