Graph a Comparison
Excel can be used to help students understand how a distant country, state, or city compares with what they already know. The Download Excel Worksheet example was a project for Geography Week.
The fourth and fifth grade classes were studying Tanzania and Chad. Being young, they didn’t have the experience to understand how few resources many people in Africa had, so we made graphs to compare those countries to what they already knew here in the United States. Using Excel, they made a chart to enter information about the countries they were studying and the United States. That information was graphed to show them visually how the countries compared.
The graphs are best viewed in Full Screen. This file can be modified to compare cities, states or other countries.
We found the data in the CIA World Factbook.
