Changes

There were many changes that took place because of the Oregon Trail. Some of them were positive; others were not. The land changed. So did the emigrants, Native Americans, wildlife, and the United States. On a sheet of paper or computer, list things you think changed because of the Oregon Trail.

On you list of changes, circle on that was not good. Make another list, this time telling things that could have kept that change from being negative.

On another sheet of paper or a new computer document, write a paragraph telling what could have been done differently to prevent people or the environment from being harmed because of the Oregon Trail.

Not all changes were negative. Look at your first list and pick out a change that was positive and write a paragraph to explain why you think that change was good.
